Modern Foreign Languages
At Whitfield Aspen School the children are exposed to languages and cultures from around the world in different areas of the curriculum, including History, Geography, Art and English. However, we focus on French as the language we teach in years 2-6, so that the children can gain reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in one language as they move up through the school.
MFL is taught by a specialist teacher in years 2-6 and some Special Provision classes, and by class teachers in Early Years and Year 1.
Special Provision classes are also invited to join the relevant mainstream class for MFL for some lessons.
French is taught in a structured but fun way; lessons include opportunities to read, write, listen and sing in French, as well as role play.

Languages Day - October 2023
In term 1, our fantastic Language Ambassadors helped the whole school celebrate Language and Culture from around the world. The children were able to hear and practise different languages from their own friends; they also learned about different food, art and facts from the Language Ambassadors.
Year 3 - 'Les Fruits'
